Cirkul’art

The international Cirkul’art project is a festival of contemporary arts, circus and theater which started at the Medická garden in the Old Town in the center of Bratislava in 2011.

The project is organized by the Neo NGO and strives to start a new tradition of a festival of contemporary arts, circus and theater, to seek new talents both at home and abroad and to support unorthodox and inspiring forms of theater. We are also trying to establish new international partnerships and to reestablish the original artistic function of the Medická garden.

The first edition of the festival took place in a circus tent and outdoors on May 19-22, 2011 and presented, for example, Theater Yllana from Spain, Unicycling Circus from Japan, Paki Paya from Belgium or T.E.J.P. theater from the Czech Republic and many other artists mostly from abroad. Thanks to the partners of the project, the first edition of the festival was free with the exception of selected top performances in the main program where the admission was 16 euro. The subsequent two annual editions of the festival brought performers from literally the whole world. Apart from European circus artists, there were jugglers from Brazil, Israel and Australia.

This year, the program consisted of approx. 50 performances of various genres from children and adults plus circus workshops.
